I'm Chiko Mukwenha, a product engineer from Zimbabwe. I build software, ask a lot of questions, and write about what I learn along the way.
I taught myself to code over a decade ago, starting with Drupal and working my way through whatever the problem in front of me demanded. That path took me from Harare hackathons to building products for organisations in London to shipping my own things in public.
I care about making things well. I've written quite a bit about the boring work that goes into that, testing, understanding the fundamentals, and taking the time to ask why something works the way it does. I still think those things matter, even when we can get a lot more done with AI.
Currently, I'm building Hydra, focused on helping South African businesses bring customers back. It gives me plenty of opportunities to discover that getting something to work is only part of the job!
